We will be hunting in Unit 113 in mid October. Can some one give me a idea of the typical weather. I thinking warm days cold nights? I was wondering and worring about rain fall that time of the year?

thanks

If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-13-08 AT 04:54PM (MST)[p]I would be willing to bet a bunch of money that the wind will blow and depending on your experience you may think it is blowing REALLY hard ( 65+ mph or more ). It picks up sand and feels like someone is trying to sand the nose off your face with a disc sander!! I am assuming that is elk 113. I hunt that area the first week of the month for antelope. I have seen it be hot (70)and pretty cool (20) and I have seen it snow so hard that it ran most folks off the prairie! As far as rain goes, I've never seen much. Usually snow if you get precip. Will this be your first trip to WY?? Pack everything you own to cover Fla. weather to the north pole and maybe a raincoat. I'm interested to see what others have to say about this. I am not jerking your string about the wind!! One of the guys with me this past season phoned me and begged me to pick him up SOON as he had had enough wind to quit in the 4 days we hunted. Take chap stick and eye drops and if you are not outdoors a lot take something for windburn on your face! You might see 20 and 70 degrees in the same day, although 50 out there feels like 70 to me. Also take something to keep hydrated as the low humidity and wind really dry me out at least. I drink about 2 quarts of water a day hunting goats.

BTW if you drew a 113 tag you got a pretty low odds of draw tag. Congrats!!

Willy is right about the wind. Not much out there to stop it. The weather REALLY varies that time of the year and the ''be prepared for anything '' advice is good ! I've seen anything from 10 - 80 degrees and heavy snow or rain. That said, its nearly desert so precipitation in usually low. Unless of course your luck runs like mine. Heavy rain will make the prarie unaccesible except by foot for a day or two. That gumbo is some nasty stuff. You'll have a great hunt no matter what. GOOD LUCK. C.C.

As far as the mud. Whatever that gray looking crap is ( clay?? ) stay out of it!!! It's some tough going, or rather NOT going!!

In Wyoming you have to be prepared for anything. October can range from the teens to over 80. The wind will definitely blow. You need to be prepared for some precipitation and don't forget the tire chains, tow straps etc. It doesn't take a lot of precipitation to turn WY roads impassable. You definitely need good tires that give good off-road traction. Good luck hunting!
