A friend in Texas had a similar thing happen to him. Launching by himself on a steep concrete ramp, put it in PARK, but didn't set the brake. The little locking piece in the transmission broke and allowed it to roll back into the river. With the trailer attached, but still floated about 800 yards down the river, because of current. They were able to secure a rope to it and retrieve with heavy equipment the same day.
