Video camera setups

What kind of video camera setups are you useing this year? What is your experience useing the smaller HD cameras? 500-1200 range? And do you need any extra mic for them. For instance with the GL2 its good to have a shotgun mic, Do they make anything like that for the small cameras or is it needed?

The Canon HV30 is a great smaller HD camera. The sound is much better with a shotgun mic. I personally like the Canon XH-A1. My first choice but by far most expensive so I will most likely never have one is the Canon XL-H1S. I think shotgun mics on all cameras make a huge difference.
