Vane Wear With WB

Right now i'm shooting with a whisker bisquit and noticing waves and tears in my vanes after not that many shots...any advice to decrease wear or straighten the vanes back out (i say this because i've heard boiling or ironing as weird as it sounds will straighten the vanes out)?

I asked this question awhile ago and those are two responses I got also. However, I did not try either as I switched to 4 2" vanes and have not had the same problems. I don't know about ironing em' but I would definately try hot water on em'. Can't really do any more damage to vanes with that. Good luck

I found the old post! If you look on Pg. 12 of the archieves, half way down look for "Whisker Bisquet".....a lot of good info in there.

I dont shoot a WB any more but I learned that Bohning vanes are pretty much the only vane that wont distort from a WB.

Thanks for the input...i'll check the archive page out and maybe get some bohning vanes to try them out...appreciate it.

Might seems a bit odd but I shoot 4" feathers. The bend as the go through the WB and then straighten back up when they pass through. I have shot a bit with them and have not ahd any problems that I had with vanes~

To keep the vanes from splitting and tearing place a drop of fletching glue at the beginning of each vane. Helps keep them on. The waving can be handled as stated above. I love my WB and don't really see any difference when I use them for hunting. Hope this helps a little.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-08-06 AT 02:47PM (MST)[p]use 2 inch blazers with as much helical as possible, if you want to never have a vane fall off, use wraps and 2 inch blazer vanes.

dip you wavy vanes in hot water or blow dry them straight if your don't want to make a permanent correction with the blazers.

I shoot a WB and I love it. I don't have any problem with the vains; don't know why. I do shoot 2" vains maybe that helps. The boiling vains thing does work. I have had vains get messed up from going through the target and tried boiling them, and it worked.

I have no problems at all with 4" vanes! I used to. Bought new arrows and problem went away. Must be different brand of vanes on new arrows. I have hundreds of shoots with no wear. I shoot as good as my buddies do with their drop aways. Love the WB !!! Make sure your not pulling your arrows by grabbing your vanes. Thats hard on em'.
