i live in helper utah and need to know a good place to go find some decent sheds. help me out

These post freaking crack me up. Not trying to be rude, but it drives me nuts when I put tons of miles on my feet and tanks and tanks of gas through my truck at 3.85 a gallon each year trying to find decent sheds, and some get on the Internet and ask for handouts. Put your tin cup away and join the rest of us 007.

I only shed hunt in Nevada so couldnt help you anyhow but some advice is get out around early march or so and try and find the deer. That way you get an idea where they shed before they drop. You will find the deer herded up pretty good just trying to put on weight. In other words.. where you find the deer in March you will find the sheds. GOOD LUCK to ya

well the book cliffs have some good deer on it just put the miles in and hopfully you will get lucky. how far are you willing to drive?
some guys wont help anyone out, i have put many miles on and spent tons on gas to but i am willing to help the next guy out. if you check your local fish and game they might be able to point you in the right direction.

haha i agree. if it was that easy it wouldn't be no fun when you actually get one. it would be like picking flowers out of a flower garden. sounds like a blast to me. how about you research a little and ask a few locals some general areas that animals winter, not shed. figure it out from there. if i were gonna give you a good spot to shed hunt though try hmmmmmm, well how about out of the city, mountains maybe, idk.

Hey Shedhuntinfool I am willing to help a guy with the basics of how to get started but that's not what 007 was asking. Interesting you didnt answer his question. I quote "I need to know a good PLACE to go find some DECENT sheds". Decent to me implies sheds with 3 points or more per side. He was asking for spots, honey holes, and secret places and I have a problem with people that ask for handouts like THIS, but no problem with requesting advice like when to start and what to look for. I think many see my point and it's pretty clear.

I also always get a kick out of posts like this....its not rocket science! Go hike around where deer winter lol!!

Asking a guy for his shed hunting honey hole is like putting your credit card # on the internet and hoping no one uses it.
This dude is just a troll passing through trying to entertain himself off of your responses.

I have a better idea!!! Post your credit card number and you might get some better info than yu already have got!!!

try my secret honey hole. its a killer place for deer and elk sheds. occasionally so moose to. 38?18′2.70″North, 106?29′56.05″East

LAST EDITED ON Apr-05-12 AT 10:21AM (MST)[p]I moved out west last January. Had basically no direction when it came to shed hunting... Sure I went once or twice with some local guys, but we didn't find much. So this year I decided just to do it all on my own.

158 Deer Sheds and 13 elk sheds later (still plenty of time to find more).... I think I have it figured out a bit and alls it took was some gas and a ton of miles walking every chance I got...

I suggest you do the same, it's much more rewarding then being hand fed a spot.

Easy hoyt, no need to get nasty. It seems that you don't understand what you are really asking for. Most of us are passionate about shed hunting and I don't know about everybody else, but I know that in 20 years I have seen shed hunting numbers go crazy. When I first started there were 5-10 guys that were committed shed hunters in my town. Now there are easily 50-100, not to mention the guys that come from out of the area to throw their trash everywhere and tear stuff up with their 4-wheelers while looking for horns. I've seen my honey holes go from a fun trip in April when all the deer are out of the area to a competition starting in December to see if you can get one horn before all the other crazies. I've been burned, shafted, spied on, lied to, taken advantage of, I've seen spot after spot discovered by 4-wheeler riding horn ticks and gridded out, should I go on? Of the 20 years I've hunted, about half has been spent finding areas with decent sheds. Only in the last 8-10 years have I had any success to speak of and now I have to work 2-3 times as hard for a shed as I did back when I started. So maybe you'll forgive me when I don't give you my social security number, my bank account, my credit card or the locations of anywhere I have had success when shed hunting. If you still haven't found a decent shed hunting spot in 10 years of walking your tail off 50+ days a year, come back and maybe I'll help you out. But don't bank on it :)

LAST EDITED ON Apr-07-12 AT 06:37PM (MST)[p]Well after all he is from Helper Utah...he needs help...:)

If you want to look in Colorado, I'll give you MAPS...I like to help youngsters get a start in shed hunting as I may die on the side of a mountain...

It's been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
But this is still the place
That we all call home

Who ever this person may be that initiated this thread, he was not asking for us to show him our favorite/secret locations to shed hunt . I hate it when ppl get on here and put people down over asking for a little guidance . Maybe he's a beginner, IDK ? Maybe he just moved to Helper and is unfamiliar w/ the area, IDK ? But as a true Sportsman, you should provide guidance and education either way . All he was asking was in help of finding something decent . What's decent to him could be a 140" set of sheds for all we know ? What I do know is I'm willing to help .
I did a similar thing just 2 weekends ago . In fact this guy I met through here and is a member of MM as well . He'd never been on the AZ Strip before, so I took him and his 9 yr old son out shed hunting . He ends up finding a 165" dead head and a couple sheds!!! He was stoked !!! Thats what matters to me . And he had no idea that there is a 250" buck in the area that I'm wanting to find sheds .
