Hey fellow MMers just a quick question I am looking to bag a bull this year and didnt get it done during the general archery hunt so now I have to ask where does a person go to tag an elk on the extended areas and where is a good place to start. your input is very much appreciated.BTW I live in Logan so anything close is appreciated

Hardware ranch is close! J/K I have heard that their are some elk towards the south end of Ogden mountain ranges, not sure of the names of the mountain ranges. Also heard of some elk being above farmington area or the bountiful B

Don't waist your time above Farmington or Bountiful. There are a few elk on the back side but they are mainly on private land. I do know a guy that has shot elk in this area but he illegally hunts on the Hardscrabble property. He trespasses from the top. He wounded two 6x6 bulls this year which ne never recovered. Knowing him and the family I doubt he searched very hard. He has wounded and harvested several other bulls in recent years in this same area. I have spent some time this year on the backside of Farmington and never saw an elk. The only elk I've ever heard of people seeing where on private land.

Your best bet is to get out and do some looking. The canyons above Salt Lake hold elk. They can be hard to locate at times. I've killed (4) elk myself in past years east of Salt Lake. The terrain is steep and rugged. They tend to be in the more remote areas. The elk don't talk much up there so locating them can be difficult. The last year I hunted up there I put on a lot of miles and spent a lot of hours and never saw an elk. The areas that I had found them in prevous years held nothing.
