The legislature is trying to pass a bill that will in effect give 12 -17 year olds up to six Bonus points on any controlled hunt they put in for. Hard to believe ,look on the Fish & Game website on that topic and look at bill H 457. It states that a Parent and grandparents that draw a controlled permit can give that tag to a child. I have talked to a F&G Commissioner about this and according to him this was NOT what their proposal was suppose to do.
If this passes a 12 -17 year old could have seven chances to draw a permit to your one, giving them six bonus points. I bet Grandmas who have never hunted a day in their life and have no intentions of hunting will be putting in for permits so their grandchild can have a better chance to draw a permit.
Parents if this sounds like an awesome deal think about it. If your child is one of the unlucky ones that doen't draw a tag before they turn 18 they then are in the same boat the rest of are in. They may never draw a tag.
Consider this if you are putting in for a permit and a hundred people put in, and there are 10 permits your chances are one in ten of drawing. If this passes and now ten of those hundred people are 12 - 17 years old and they each get all of their extra chances to put in on their behalf there is 170 people in on this drawing. Your chances now if 18 or older have dropped to 1 in 17. That almost doubles the odds against you. How does that make you feel when you've been putting in for a tag for years.
I urge you to look at this and please call or email those who are voting on this to stop it ASAP I hope it's not to late . This is also only going to create more resentment towards youth hunting as I know some already don't like the special youth only hunts.
Remember the majority of us who hunt are 18 or older.
