Unit 89 info

I just checked my maps and you need a good one or two and definitely a GPS with a landowner chip. There are not many public roads in that unit with most being marked BLM ones. I also looked on the G&F website and see that the season is for bucks only and runs from just 10/15 to 10/31. If you can hunt the entire season, that's what I would do. If you have limited time, I would concentrate on the last 7 or 8 days when the better bucks start looking for does.

Congrats you have a good tag. If possible I would hunt the entire season. Some decent bucks shot every year in 89.
Thanks. I've heard there are a few ranches that trespass fees can be paid to allow access. I've also heard there are a few ranches that allow walk in hunts. Are these the same? Any idea on how I get ahold of those ranches? I haven't been able to get ahold of the local biologist yet.

We hunted 23 for elk year before last. Three of us had tags so I was out until early/mid Dec. Gonna be a lot of elk hunters in the hunter management areas. I'd avoid those areas on weekends. I'm not sure which HMA ranches are open for deer. The Circle Bar had some nice bucks. If its closed to deer, I'd go in off the Dry Ck Rd and use a GPS to access some of the public grounds. We saw some exceptional deer in other places. However most of them weren't showing themselves until the first part of Nov when the rut was going and then later into Dec. Guessing a number of them were hanging on Spano's or other private grounds during the deer season...
