Unit 56 Deer?

Anyone have any info on this unit for deer?

Nothing special. Lots of people, lots of roads. There is a rule against ATV's being used off of full size roads, but with the CO for the unit being out of Burley and the fact that there is a 4 wheeler trail on every ridge the rule is tough to enforce.

There are some decent deer in the unit and a few really good ones, but that can be said for nearly every unit in the state. It is also hard to get more than a mile away from a road in most of the unit.

There is tons of public land to hunt and a huge amount of private land enrolled in the Access Yes program so access in most areas isn't an issue. The terrain isn't especially tough, a few steep area and timber.

Overall opinion of the unit-just a deer hunt. No better, no worse than a good portion of the state's general areas.

when they opened it up in '04 it was a circus, I live close and scout it often, their is some good bucks in 56 but very tuff to hunt come oct.

Is this the first year it has been open all season? In the past wasnt it a 5 day hunt?

What part of "in the past" are you referring to?

It has been general season any buck, 2 pt buck only, 5 day 4 pt only, 5 day general and now all season.

There also used to be a pretty decent november hunt (draw hunt). I don't know when that was taken away.

I am going to try 56 this coming season along with others probably near the end of the season. I have the 10th through the 31st off so i am in search for a trophy. Probably look into 73a also. maybe Malad but i heard it gets tons of pressure and only a 5 day war.
