Greetings,

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some info on unit 47. I have drove through the area last season and saw some goats enroute unit 32 but have not really scouted this area or spent anytime in the flats. I know antelope are all over in Wyoming but it is nice to get as much info as possible from folks who know. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am a Nevada resident and can share info on Unit 7 and 6 and some areas in Eastern California.

Thanks in advance, Dave

I have hunted this area several times in the past. to me there is much better areas to hunt for better bucks but a good area if you want to see alot of animals. i have killed the biggest buckes i seen wile hunting the area and never broke 14". the reson being is way to many people in the area. the last i checked there was over 1000 tags between the two seasons. the best area to look is along the shirley mt. road just pay attention to your area map along with location becouse you don't want to end up on Q creek. but expect to kill a 12 or 13 inch goat faily easy.

The area was short on size last year. Too many tags and the drought have taken its toll. Better moisture this year will help, but with all the tags in recent years, some of the age classes have been hit hard. 12 - 13" goats will be common. If you don't object to paying a trespass fee, it'd be worth a call to the lady warden in Medicine Bow and find out which landowners allow hunting for a fee in the southern part of the area. Definitely yer best chance at bagging a good buck...

I got my biggest antelope in 47. A 15 inch that scored 82 inch's. It has been 4 years since I drew a buck tag,but have doe hunted the area.Lots of public land. I go late in the season and take your time and look for a good one.

These guys covered it well...with the extra tag numbers and the reduced price doe tags, the BLM gets alot of pressure, making all the goats skittish. I do second the hunting later and taking your time. Some nice goats in the unit still though. I did see my largest loper yet on the hoof there 5 years ago...and wasn't able to convert the opportunity. He woulda went 90+. Guided a guy 2 years ago there, and the quality was much lower and everything was a bit more "jumpy".

If you want to find "calmer" ones, check out the eastern side of the unit - checkerboard, but some favorable landowners.
