how are these units for goat hunting...what can one expect in terms of hunt and buck quality if'n a feller hunts mid-later in season there...thanks

I usually hunt mid October and see tons of goats. The biggest antelope I ever got was in unit 47!
I did not draw a license last year.I am planning on a license this year along wth a doe tag.

What's the deal with the doe tag? If you are successful at drawing a buck tag you can also buy an over the counter coe/fawn tag?

last year 47 doe tags sold out in the initial drawing, if you want a doe tag you can apply on the same application as buck and then mark the withdrawl box if you don't get the buck tag. That way you at least have a chance for a doe tag. I think it was about 50 % on the doe tags in 47 last year (that is off the top of my head).

Your right ,last year I did not draw either a buck or doe tag for 47.

We drew Unit 47 last year and were able to pick up a doe tag OTC at one of the Vendors. I think that they usually have doe tags available, but you can not buy them until the day they are released. I guess if you try to mail your money and application and it gets to a vendor before the tags go on sale the Vendors are told to pitch the app in the trash.

The place I used for leftover doe tags, they number the applications as they come in and on the day they go on sale the licenses go first to the people who are in line in person then go to the mail ins as they are numbered ,first come first served.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-29-08 AT 02:38PM (MST)[p]Areas 47 & 48 have good populations of Pronghorns but the quality isn't there. If your after Average bucks great. Trophy animals will be tough.

Lots of public access via county roads which means lots of hunting pressure. Be prepared to see lots of vehicles. The antelope get very spooky after the first weekend especially with everyone out there banging away trying to fill their additional doe tags.
