Turkey Hunting Near Grangeville?

Does anybody know anything about turkey hunting near Grangeville? I've never been up that way, but am thinking about giving it a try, after checking my spots last weekend and finding that they're going to be snowed in for awhile... What's the best part of the season up there when the toms respond well to (come to) calling?

ha the snow is azz deep up there as well ! it will be may before i can get to where i go....

Thanks beavis14. I did talk to an IDFG guy up there and he said the valley is clear of snow.

there is still snow on the ground above town and in most of the mountains.

the private ground is clear of snow. Most of the FS roads will have snow as you gain elevation, but the low stuff is all clear.

the Toms are strutting. have been for a few weeks when it warms up.

I've hunted about an hour out of grangeville a few times but it was always the last week or two of the season. The turkey hunting up there is awesome! Can't wait to go back some time.

Is that when they start coming to calls up there? Or is it when the hens are on their nests and the toms are still lookin' for love?

first couple days is always good. i always go starting may first. for the reason you provided. good luck on your hunt

It's a great area to hunt, give it a shot you won't be disappointed!! We just got back from that general area anjd it was great as always.
