Tree Stands

I was thinking of getting a tree stand to hunt over a wallow.
I've never used one and was wondering should I get a Climbing one or a hang on tree stand?
Which brand would you recommend?

If you are packing it in there are very few climbers that are light enough to pack. There are a lot of good tree stands out there but I would suggest that you sit in a couple and see what's comfortable to you. What is comfortable to your buddy may break your back if you sit in it for several hours.

It's always an adventure!!!

Hang-on without a doubt. A climber may slip or fall on an aspen and won't work because of branches on a pine unless you cut them all off. Even if it doesn't slip on the aspen it will damage the soft bark and potentially kill the tree which means using a different tree every few years if you hunt the same area often.

Hang ons are usually cheaper and lighter too.

I use the hang-ons for sure. In lots of timbered elk country trees are fairly limby & it can be tough to do a lot of trimming to get one in place. Too, generally treestands have to be packed in a ways to good secluded wallows. When this is the case, weight is a factor. I've been using the Gorilla stands, they weigh aprox. 11# & can be packed in easily. Check them out here!!
