Tree Stands

I want to get a hang on tree stand for this fall. I'm out West and will be hiking at least 2 miles into my hunting area so weight is definatly a factor. But I am not a little man-----6'5" and 265 lbs, so I need something that can take the weight. But I also want some comfort. I've been looking at the Lone Wolf stand with maybe some of their climbing sticks. I've also looked at the gorilla stands. Anyone have any advice or favorites??

Thanks

Andy

Tree lounge !!! Google it , but its supposed to be top notch strong and comfortable to hunt in for hours at a time ...

LAST EDITED ON Mar-24-06 AT 11:40AM (MST)[p]If you're going to be hiking a legitimate 2 miles, you will not want to haul the tree lounge, IMO. It's a great stand, but far too heavy to pack that far.

If you're looking for something light weight and back-packable I would suggest Loc-on Treestands. They make several models in the 7-9 pound range. Here's their link so you can check them out. Good luck.

I would not recomend a Tree Lounge! I have an API Grand Slam Super Mag (good to 300 lbs). My cousin has a new Tree Lounge. He and I had a race to see who could get set and up a tree the fastest and most quiet. I was up and in position with close to 6 miutes to spare. His is also a pain in the butt to pack. It is pretty long and hits the back of his legs as he hikes. I tried his stand and found it to be much more cumbersome. He likes mine so much that he is selling his and buying an API.
Be careful of hang-ons. They can be very dangerous to get in and out of. I would suggest a climber. They weigh a little more, but are more versitile and safe. Just train a little more so you can heft it through the woods. Once you become accustomed to it, it is a piece of cake. I pack mine for several mile in pretty rough terrain to get to my "honey hole", it is just a matter of getting used to it.

Go with the Gorilla, silverback is my choice. I am 6'4'' 240 and have api treestands and the gorillas. After using the gorillas i just cannot stand to even use the api. The Silverback is light, easy to carry a long way and very quiet when your in it. I know i am well up in the 300 pound range when its cold and i am hunting out of my silverback in November, It never gives me any problems or squeeks. The new ones are even better now that they can adjust away from the tree in case you get a leaning tree. Just my opinion, bowhuntinnut

Your a big guy, you don't wanna be sitt'in on no little "diving board" for hours, especially after a long hike in.
Take a look at the Supermag stands outta NC. They are lightweight, strong, comfortable and you can hunt facing the tree or with your back to it. They're sold by Austin Outdoors and their website is www.austintreestands.com
Check them out and good luck with your choice!! :D
