Time for some TRUTH!!

Alright boys......IF you are willing - lets play a little game of "to tell the truth here". NO gimmicks....NO kiss and tell....I DO NOT want to know where you shed hunt, or where you hidie holes are. WELL THATS A LIE.......but you know what I mean.
All I want to know is WHERE THE HELL do you guys find so many sheds????? Now listen.....I've been shed hunting for 35 years. I think I know what I'm doing (that could be questionable). I've got more big antlers than you can shake a stick at. In 35 years......you will to!!!!!!!!
I shed hunt at least 3 days a week. Walk God only knows how many miles, but I would say 6 to 10 miles every time I go out. I am in GREAT county. THAT IS WHAT I AM COMING TO IN A MINUTE. But I do not find anywhere near the numbers of sheds most of you guys find. What the heck is up???????????
This year I have found only 10 fresh deer sheds. A matched pair right at 215. A matched pair of 200+. Two single horns that go over 100 each, alone!!!!!!!!! Can you believe I cannot find the match to either. And four other nice big antlers. ALL big horns.....NO small ones.....all Fresh brown. Through the many years I have probably picked up ALL the old white. Only eight Elk antlers. Two beautiful very large (6's) matched sets. Two large single 6's. And a HUGE last years matched set of sixes. But that is it. Either huge or nothin!
You guys find zillions it seems.
Now I ain't bitchin'. Truthfully, I would not trade with anyone. I would rather find smaller numbers of BIG BEAUTIFUL matched sets than 200 small ones........but. Here comes the big question. Where are you guys at????????
I live in Northern New Mexico. I cannot go on the Apaches, Southern Utes or Navajo. But I got lots of BLM and forest. How can you be finding so many?????????? I am probably blind because I have been known to step on them. Walk over them (and my grandaughter finds them -honest truth-), etc. etc. I even sat down on one once. Mine are big.....but they are not many.
Where do you guys find so many? Please answer very generally. Like 'AFRICA' or something.

Ya,We got sheds!

Finding a Deer Shed outside of an LE Unit/Reservation is almost non-existent!

Thanks to Hammering Anthro(Sorry bonepiler!)there ain't many Big Elk sheds to find out there anymore!

We had way more snow this year so finding a few Elk Sheds where I normally do ain't happening!

Most Sheds this year on the South Slope have Feathers on them!

For me to find a Shed a couple things must happen!

First I gotta trip over it!

Then when I fall on it,one of the points has to hit me in the eye!

Seems like the Fresh Browns are tougher for the Pro's here to find this year?

For GAWDS Sakes Guys,We Got Kids on this Site,Some of them are 65 years Old!

I don't care if they're big or small!
If they throw lead I like em all!

i may find a couple hundred sheds every year but i would trade that in a heartbeat for a couple of 200 sets (which i have never found) or a 100 inch single (which i have also never found)

in the nastiest roughest toughest s#it you can find, all the easy ones are gone before they touch the ground. You should see my shirt from saturday its in shreads and it was a tough shirt yea i found 14 but my poor poor shirt.ha

i shed hunt where i see tons of deer. around here(norhtern utah, southern wyoming) there are areas where the deer group in huge numbers in a small area to get through the winter. i wouldn't think they would do that in the warmer areas like new mexico. that may be the difference. but saying that i have 200 sheds about so far and only maybe 7 sheds that go in the 70 inch range. no eighties yet. have never broke 85" and i would trade my year for your year in a freaking heart beat. getting sick of all the small ones and ready for some big ones. thats what you get around here though. a lot of 2 and 3 points with a few fours mixed in.

Like the others have said, I'd trade everything i've found this year for your year! My best antler this year scores 83 3/8 and i'm still trying to at least get a pic with the other guy who has the match (if I can I'm gonna try to buy/trade for it). I found my 2nd biggest set (177 4/8) this year, but my best set is only an inch and an eighth bigger. As far as elk go, I haven't had much luck at all with only 4 horns this year. I'm from northern utah, but travel all over the place to shed hunt to get away form people and just to simply go out sheddin with good friends. That being said, some of those trips are more for quantity because thousands of wintering animals congregated in small areas ensure you will find a number of horns. Large horns are very few and gone soon as they drop, but you still get some with good character.

You see, you guys either find a whole bunch of sheds or find a few sheds but they are all big. Me, I find very few sheds and they are all very small. My biggest shed I found was a five point that scores a litlle over 80 inches. Then my next two biggest sheds are right around 70 inches. Then everything else I have found would all be under 50 inches haha. So I don't find the size or the numbers.

Well Gentlemen....SHUT MY MOUTH !! Guess I had forgotten just how lucky I have been finding fewer...but bigger. I can identify with Gottafindem - the stuff I am hunting in is so steep, rocky, sh#**!, clothes tearing & nasty you can hardly believe it.....but that seems to be where the big boys shed. I have got to be more careful however or I am going to burn my daughter and grandaughter out.
THANK YOU for the replies. The best I can figure, most of you live in Northern Utah and Wyoming...maybe Colorado.
By the way. Last weekend I drove to the Gila Wilderness. I was thinking about Jackson Hole, just to say I had participated in the big cluster.....but thought better of it.
Anyway......I was looking for that 400 pointer (elk). Sorry to report - didn't find it. That country is SO BIG....and SO DRY. I really enjoyed it, but I just don't know???????
Saw about 600-700 elk in two days. Did find one huge funky Six point that was a 3 point. A really strange pedistal (crooked). I love the horn (antler).
Man....IF I could just figure out how to post the pictures I would let you guys in on some treats. I'll keep trying.
If I ever do figure it out....I will post them under...."Look at these frickin' whoopers"!!!
p.s. I just absolutely love the post....."Well, I don't find many horns - but they sure are small!!"

This is what I would do: I'd just be lucky to have the spots you have and that your legs still work. Who cares were everybody else hunts? Because now they're going to go leaps and bounds to try to find where you hunt . . .
