Man I hate these long winter evenings. I've lost all interest in Pro Basketball, most college basketball, most college football, and darn near everything else on this useless television and my high priced cable connections. It's pretty sick when watching the O'Reilly Factor, twice in the same evening, is better than the next best thing on the tube.

At least, for ten days in December I can watch something of interest. The NFR, day one, was great last night. Burnt nearly three full hours of dark too.

Sage, too bad there not a Cardoza roping this year, then I could at least know someone, that know's someone, that's competing this year. While I've never met them I have to admit it's pretty darn cool to see four Wright brothers for Utah all score a ride in the bronc riding last night. I had six uncles do that one year at the Raymond Stampede in Alberta but that's a far cry from doing it at the NFR, for all the marble.

At any rate, if your bored tonight, it's on Channel 158 CBSSN on Utah DishTV, 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time.

Rodeo's the most fun you can have with your clothes on................. for 20 year olds, and ropers ;-)!

I know a 5 year old that is heading there to compete in the Rubberhead roping. He is super good I hope he does well. His dad is going to be team roping.

Drop a name on us, so we can pay attention. Hope the future champeen catches a pen full of those longhorns too!

2lumpy, thanks for the mention. I too had hoped that young Russell would have returned to one of the top 15 in Team Roping and because so, the NFR this year as he has in others. I had moved north before he was born, i do root for him but in reality, we are much more related than acquainted. I'd like to fix that if i can.

This season he finished the regular season 8th i believe in the all-around cowboy totals and down around 20th as a healer, made something like $57K in the PRCA events and presumably some more in others. That's one of the things i like about the NFR, it's about who's done the best this year,...and then let them go for the big money. Young Russel just didn't make it this time but i guess he's doing all right.

There's a professional rodeo'r named Luke Branqhino that was raised in the same area as I. I think he's won a couple world championships in steer wrestling if I'm not mistaken. I like rodeo...gotta be on top of your game or you simply don't get paid. That's how every sport should be.

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

Let's just say they EARN their Money!

Specially them Bull Riders!

The heck with that bull riding Bess, a man could get his brains kicked in or flat stomped clean through. My hats off to the rough stock riders how they keep being able to work through the injures, looks no fun to me, never did.

I got a Uncle, great uncle, brother of my Grandpa, was pretty famous bronk and bull rider that lived up in Roseberg Oregon before he died a good life. He got famous from being good but also from riding a tough painted horse at the Cow Palace in SF for the big money one year back when. In his later years, he still traveled to Rodeos all over the West to be a Grand Marshal or honorary guest of one sort or another. The Man was a Cowboy clear through till the day he died.

Aside young Russell, I seen on the internet that another Cousin of mine, won both the Team roping, as a header, and the wild Cow Milking at our PRCA home town Rodeo this year. There will be more, our family ain't done yet. :)

Though i loved to flank cattle and work with the ground crew at our round-ups, sports instead of Rodeo was my interest and never gave any part of it a go except to get there and watch. I would love though to have seen how good i might have been at steer wrestling. I had the tools and the attitude, might have been a fair hand at that game.

I just hope nobody gets bad hurt!

The 5 year old that is heading there is name is Brazen Wells. His dad is roping his name is Dustin Wells. I won't be able to see it I don't have cable, but Brazen is a awesome roper. I have seen him rope the rear wheels on a tricycle as a kid is riding it as fast as the kid could ride. For a 5 year old he can head or heel.

My brother made it 3 times. If you've never been, put it on yer bucket list. Stay at the gold Coast watch the buckle presentations after each round. Quite a show.

It's great to have families with legacies that we look back on with respect and admiration. Sage, you clearly came from great country stock, the kind the folks I look up to.

Looking back with appreciation on those that helped make us what we are is nothing to be bashful or timid about, as far as I'm concerned. I hope the things we're doing or trying to do today can be looked back on by future family generations with the same degree of respect and appreciation.

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter what road your family traveled, be it cowboy, shoe maker, butcher, butler, tinker, taylor, Native American, Asian, African, or European, slave or free. We're here because of the fight and struggle our ancestors made, regardless of their, line of work, nationality, ideology, or status in the community. Some did one thing, some did another, they survived and we're all here to prove it. Your family's history is something you should celebrate. I hope everyone feels as appreciative about their heritage, what ever it is, as ole Sage feels about his.

No need to stay in a constant twist about anything and everything. Once in a while it's not a bad idea to share a reflective and pleasant thought. Give it a try, might soften your heart on occasion.

Making the trip to go watch and shop in two days. I always like to go catch two nights of the rodeo in person but the wife is just happy to watch it in one of the casinos. We booth like all the shopping and looking at Cowboy Christmas and Country Christmas. In the past there has been smoking deals but I think this year the better half will keep me away form the Colt booth.

That NFR is quite the deal in vegas. I will be there to watch my daughter in the national cheer championships again this year. I don't get to see the Rodeo in person but love seeing all the cowgirls all over the place.
