Switchback horror story

My wife and I were expecting our first baby in early May so in preparation we got the baby's room ready including setting up a crib. The crib came in March and was delivered in a big cardboard box and was assembled. I layed the flat cardboard box in the back of the truck for recycling and we decided to drive 90 miles to see the inlaws over the weekend and I wanted to take my bow with me just to keep in practice. I layed the bow on the cardboard thinking that it would keep the cardboard from blowing out. Now driving 75mph on the interstate in a horrendous crosswind just before dark I hear some noise coming from the back of the truck and saw something fly out. Panic set in knowing that my bow was back there. I quickly pulled over to the left side of the interstate and noticed a semi barreling down the road behind us. I thought my worst fears were coming true. The semi passed and I backed up to a dark subject just off the interstate laying in the ditch. My pregnant wife offered to get out and look for it but I told her to stay in the vehicle. Things didn't need to go from bad to worse. I got out and grabbed my still in-tact bow case and was afraid to look inside. When we got to where we were going I realized that my Leice 1200 rangefinder was inside as well. I imagined approximately $1500 worth of equipment destroyed. Up til now I was just lucky that the semi didn't run it over. The crosswind had picked it up and blew the bowcase off the road and into the ditch. I opened up the bowcase and saw that my arrows were all loose laying on top of my bow and that my bow was still fastened down nicely. After further inspection I noticed that there was no damage whatsoever and it was still shooting dead on. The rangefinder is also in great condition. The $20 hard case I bought with my bow had been money well spent. My bow sits up front from now on. How lucky was that?

I can just imagine the feeling in the pit of your stomach when that happened! I'm glad all was OK.

I saw a bow fly out of a truck in front of me two years ago. I could tell it looked like a new new hoyt. I didn't have time to move because of the heavy traffic and it slid under my wheels. It just about made me crash and when I Looked in the mirrow it was all over the road. You got very lucky!

Simple rule to live by- The wife sits in the back of the truck!!!! That should go over well.

A couple of years ago I had been doing some target practice and had set my bow in the bed of my truck to take a phone call in the house. I had got side tracked from what I was doing and went to the store which included 3 miles of dirt road. On the way back I noticed something laying in the middle of the dirt road, MY BOW!!! bout near had a heart attack. Thankfully it was intact and no damage was done to it.
