Swhacker Broadhead

For my elk hunt this fall im pondering on whether or not to try out the swhacker broadhead. Could anybody tell me, are they worth trying? I shoot approx 73 fp of Kinetic energy, would that be enough to get a pass through on an elk with these heads?

I had a quide tell me that he has taken several clients who were associated with Schwaker on elk hunts in NM. About three time he said the blades deployed and sent the arrows in every direction except towards the animals. These are all different sitations and different hunters. For an elk guide that allows expandels (which is rare) these are ones he wont allow.

If i decide to shoot expandables, I'll look at NAP Spitfires or Grimreapers.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-11-11 AT 08:26AM (MST)[p]I've been experimenting with the Swhacker lately. From my tests I can tell you it flies great, penetration is awesome and it is tough as nails. So far, I have tested Swhacker 100 gr., Rage 2 blade 100 gr. and NAP Spitfire 100 gr. I've tested for accuracy out to 80 yards, entrance and exit holes, penetration into various mediums and angled shots. The Swhacker has out performed them in all categories.

I never had a blade open in flight like this elk guide claims. In fact, that's another plus for this head cause the blades are held with a band and cannot open until impact. The Rage and Spitfire on the other hand are only held by a small amount of friction and could easily be opened going into or out of the quiver or in flight.

Just for the record I have always shot fixed blade heads and in no way endorsing a particular head. Just like to experiment and sharing my results.

i saw a show on the pursuit channel called broadhead science, the swhacker came out far ahead of all the others, check the show out, you be be impressed.

That, and they did not compare it to any good, heavy-duty fixed heads.

I would love to have seen what a G5 Montec would have done to that barrel.

I know they did an in depth look at almost every head on the market, I wanna say it was on archery talk but could be wrong. They tested all kinds of things from sharpness out of the box to flight. You may wanna check that out it was pretty interesting.

I know that this is kinda late but I see a huge problem with them. There is NO entrance hole if the arrow does not exit you have one small hole for blood to come out. That is just my opinion but I want a cut on contact broadhead.

Which is why if you can't do it, take your bow to a pro shop and get them to tune it for you. If the bow is tuned properly then a fixed head broadhead will fly the same as a field point. Maybe I have lucked out with my bow, arrow, and broadhead combinations over the years. My broadheads and field points always had the same point of impact.

Alaska I agree with you I worked in an archery shop for 3 years and I do shoot a fixed blade broadhead. I saw the show that was talked about above and I thought it was totally bias that is why I pointed out the flaw I saw with the head from the first time I looked at it.
