Swakane review

I was over in the swakane unit all day monday. Seen 36 does. Mostly in groups of 3-4. Only seen one branched buck and it was late in the day a long ways out. Covered lots of country and darn near wore out my binocs and spotting scope. Not sure if the rut isn't going yet or if it has come and gone. I just know that I didn't see bucks tending does like I expected. Hopefully enough snow falls this week to push some more deer in.

I looked all around the groups of does I seen and they didn't have any company. I'm sure there are some bucks running does, but not in any of the groups I seen.

Oh well. With all the snow coming now it should get real good over there. Just my luck. My monday is tomorrow.

If anyone is still interested.....since season closes on Friday.

Spent this last Friday and Saturday up there.....mostly up Swakane Rd. Cannot believe how many deer I saw. Saw 10 legal bucks with majority of them 4bys. Most in the 20" range with 2-3 dandies. Unfortunately, they were always in an area that was unstockable. Tried on a couple, only to get about half way and have one thing or another go wrong.

I would say that the bucks are just barely coming off the rut. The majority, not all, the bigger bucks were typically by themselves, most of the smaller, younger deer were with groups of does.

Great time to be up there and would definately suggest anyone to head up there if they can squeeze in a day this week. I'm gonna go try and fill my elk tag.

Haven't been back yet. Told my cousin to head up and take a peek. I'm going out for blacktail tomorrow. Got an idea of where a pig is hiding.

I'll let you know if he gets up there.

Well, you know our story over there!!! It was great and we will be back and we will be stalking and hiking and hiking and...well you get the picture!!!!
I wouln't trade my son getting a chance on a big buck like he did at 31 yards. That was awesome!!!! I have an idea for an area I saw over there and I will tell you about it later!!!

Your November 21st trip should have been at the peak of the rut. The bucks kind of drop off and go solitary at the end of November. Do idea why you didn't spot more bucks with the does.
