Strange Opener

My wife woke me at 7 AM Saturday morning to tell me that the Feds had opened the National Forests the night before. Way to go guys--half the town slept through the opener. The woods were so empty that I actually returned to town to check with the USFS work center to confirm what I had been told.

It was the first time is a long while that I saw more bucks than hunters. My son and I watched this buck for several hours as two guys in a razor drove back and forth past him at least a half-dozen times. Of all the improvements to hunting I have seen, none have been better from my perspective than those nice, comfortable ATVs that keep folks on the road. ?

This was a southern C zone buck.

I am not sure that I understand your question, 264, but I believe that nine North State forests opened this weekend (no campfires). Call your local NF to confirm.

All of Six Rivers NF is still closed but some of Shasta-Trinity NF is open. I don't have a tag, so.....I haven't kept track that much.

I joined a 4 man club this year. They shoot about 400 Aleutian geese and some ducks every year. About 20 minutes from home.

My blind went up 2500(11k)f'n crooks..
It includes a speck field and got about same in specks and unlimited field maggots(snows).
I only shoot mallards, teal, sprigs.. our club fines for hen shooting thats in duck blind in tule... we put out thousands of deeks in goose field..it a great blind ..20ga shoots on north wind days only ..tons of fun..

We shoot a few and used to shoot a lot more. We love them. Not everyone shares that feeling.

I went aleut hunting once, ground most of em up for chili beans meat. The two I did pick and grill were awesome. Very mild flavor, not unlike a speck.
