Still packing

I went on a pretty good hike today only to find a group of bucks all still packing.

I was out on Sunday and found 32 bucks still packing. A couple with 1 side missing and only 2 that appeared to have lost both sides.

Tonight I went and looked at the herds near town, saw 7 bucks still lacking 1 missing a side and 3 that looked like they had dropped. I saw 9 bulls all packing tonight and the only 2 bulls I saw this last weekend were still packing.

Hope this weekend that all those bucks have dropped. I am going hunting with my 4 year old son.

But yet everyone and their cat and dog hae been going out since January. Pushing the deer out of the winter grounds. Last Friday I saw 16 packing both sides, 2 that had drop one side, and five bucks that have dropped. So I left I'll be back in two weeks. Goodluck when you go out with your four year old.

A friend of my buddy picked up thirty elk sheds in Utah this weekend... I don't get it.

I think that it really depends on the area. I'm not sure if it is genetics or weather or what but it seems like most the bucks in a general area shed around the same time. Though there are not tons of deer in my area it seems like the bucks that I do see lose at around the same time, and it's usually mid-February to mid-March. 100 miles away, the deer seem to drop mostly in March, I have even seen a few forkies packing in April. In another area, a buddy was telling me the deer were 90% shed out before the end of February.
Not sure if it is coincidence or an actual difference in areas.
