Staining Elk Sheds

Does anyone have a good way of staining elk horns. I have one side that I found 2 years ago and I recently found the other side. I would like to get them mounted and need them to match. They are pretty good horns. If you give them a 40" inside spread they score 427. I would appreciate any suggestions.

If I knew how to post pictures, I would.

I go out and cut a bunch of pine tree limbs and rub on them the same as the elk do. the pine gum fills in the cracks so it works good. Then I get cedar tree bark and rub on them and it darkens them up a little and also gives them some shine. It takes alot of time but they look natural.

talk to browtine he has a way to do it that I used on some deer antlers last year that turned out just perfect. he may have perfected it since then

elkhunter2428, I would be extremely careful on older sheds..if there is any cracking in the shed the results wont be what your looking for...on a 400 inch bull I would suggest getting them done by a pro as it would increase the value later. It would help if you had a picture of the shed your staining.. I think I would be able to tell you if the method I use would work on it.
