I'm thinking of going out for spring bear this year. Can anyone tell me a good unit for a spot and stalk style hunt?I need a unit the has easy to get tags also.Would like to scout a little for a future archery elk hunt. Not asking for anyones "spot" just a good general area for a bear hunt. Thanks for any imfo.

The northern part of 76, and you can buy a deer tag and use it in the fall if you don't get a bear.

Grizzly

Is this a unit 76 deal? The regs I looked up said that a deer season had to be open to use a nonres deer tag on a bear. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I have no clue on the bear deal..........Was curious if you hunted 051 for deer this year COSA?

That would be an excellent deal to use a deer tag.Never knew about that.Anything I should be looking for when hunting spring bear? What type of feed are they using at that time?
Thanks

Take a look at the units in North central Idaho, i.e. Units 10 & 12. Lots of bears....

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

put in for the 32a spring bear. only 75 tags, but if you draw, you'll have plenty of chances. helped a guy out on here last year...cant remember his name. told him some honey holes and they got into them...and he took one. if you do decide to, ill do the same for you. that unit has too many bears, and i dont mind putting a guy into some good spots. that goes for anyone who draws that tag and is unfamilar with the unit.

TLook for the greenest old logging road you can find. They come out of hidernation and feed on the new grass and clovers. Look for good roads with this and look for fresh bear scat. Find this and you are there!!!

32a is a good unit for bear but odds of drawing are crappy anymore. I was also looking at the 2008 success rates and they were way below what I imagined. Leads me to think most bear hunters are looking for that giant boar and will not settle for an average bear.
