I KNOW THIS IS LIKE BEATING A DEAD HORSE. BUT IF YOU HAD A $1000.00 TO SPEND ON A SPOTTING SCOPE, WITH TRIPOD, WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SET UP. I KNOW SOME WILL SAY SAVE ON GO GET THE BEST. BUT I NEED SOMETHING FOR RIGHT NOW AND THEN I'LL UPGRADE LATER. I DON'T DO MUCH BACK PACK HUNTING. BUT WHEN HUNTING, I WALK ALOT TO GET AWAY FROM PEOPLE. I WOULD LIKE IT TO FIT IN MY BADLANDS 2200 (OLD STYLE), AND TRIPOD. ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT.

For $1,150.00 you can get a Zeiss 65mm spotter with the FL high quality glass. I don't know if they still do it but Zeiss used to throw in a free tripod with thier spotters. I've heard nothing but great reviews about Vortex so you may want to look into thier spotters. Goodluck, fatrooster.

I bought my Vortex Skyline 20-60x80 from Doug at Cameraland and have been completely happy with it. I had a Nikon Sky and aEarth previously, the Vortex has a much larger field of view when zoomed in and it is clear and sharp to the edges. Rumor has it their HD or ED version, that is coming soon, is even better and would still be in your price range.

As far as tripods, I have a Bogen 3001BD and the 3265 head. If I had it to do over again, I would buy the K&K from Sportsmans, it is lighter and has a superior head to mine.

SOUNDS LIKE THE VOTEX IS SWEET. I LOOKED AT THE NIKON A T SPORTMANS WAREHOUSE 20/60/80 AND I LOVE THE PRICE AND THE END OF THE SLEEVE THAT OFFERS SHADE WHEN SPOTTING. DOES THE VORTEX OFFER THIS AND WHEN IS THE HD GOING TO BE READY. THANKS FOR THE THREAD.

If you haven't already, you can go directly to the Vortex website, look at their products and also e-mail them with questions about availability dates. I e-mailed them about their new 15X binos, and got a reply the next morning. Here's the link below. Scott
