Southern Arizona mule deer rut question.

I want to hunt the mule deer rut in az this january. My question is do the deer frequent the water holes more often or the same? and do you think putting out some doe scent will work? I have lived in Arizona all my life and have never hunted the rut before sounds like a blast. Also have only been archery hunting for 3 years and still waiting to tag out. thanks. Albert......

Albert:

They will use the water. However, understand what their number one concern is first. Act like you are hunting a Doe. The bucks will be right there with them. Last year I had the same buck (forky) run past me 3 times at 10-20yds. I have shot more than my sahre of forkies. Anyway, stay focused on the does, and remember Jan gets lots of rain so they will hit puddles before main water holes. At least that has been my experience. Usually the first week always seems to get pounded with rain. But you can count on the bucks being out!

Shoot em a PM if you need more info.

Thanks for the info airbone. I cant wait. I do have a mule deer rifle tag for unit 33 I have killed 3 mules out of there the biggest was a small 3x3. so I think I will try that unit for the jan. hunt.
