here's a dumb question about snow mortality on mule deer in region w this winter...how are they faring?

Not a dumb question at all. I was wondering the same thing as I kept an eye on a couple of bucks last year and might want to get a tag to go along with my elk hunt.

Well i was in a joint meeting with the blm and wgf yesterday. I was talking to tim wolley (biologist) he said alone that there have been over 100 hit on the highway in the first 10 miles north of town, and i've estimated that we have lost 30% or so far. Pretty much all of the old and young....And if we still have the wettest part of the spring to come. We get most of our snow in feb-april. I know that i'm going to be spending alot of time hunting the bottoms of draws for dead heads. I'm sure most made it but alot of the old bucks are dying-dead already.
