Hey boys, went on a cut short scouting trip on Saturday. I left my house at 11:30 pm and rolled into the trailhead at 3:00 am and hit the trail. I forgot my headlamp and had a hard time finding where the stupid fourwheeler trails ended and the hiking trail started. I ended up bush whacking my way to the top where I wanted to start glassing at first light. After a nasty 2 and a half hour climb I made it to the top just before sun up. I couldn't believe how cold it was as I started putting clothes back on.
As the basins slowyly lit up I found One bachelor herd of bucks out feeding, I took a quick look through the spotting scope and decided the biggest buck of the bunch was around 28 inches and had a few extra's. Probably one I would smoke towards the end of the hunt but not a first day buck. After sitting there for a few minutes I realized I didn't have as much time to glass as I had planned for because of in the distance I could see the clouds swallowing the peaks and coming towards me at the same time. Minutes later I had a small snow storm on my hands1 At the point I decided that I would just head back to the truck and drive the 3 and half hours back home. The whole way home it rained so I am sure it would have been a misearable day if I would have tried to tuff it out. I was just happy to see some bucks, that made the whole trip worth it for me.
Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...
