Just wonderin' if anyone is gettin' stoked for the snow to fly here in Ut. to get the deer movin' down a little on the Wasatch front? I already filled my tag out to Vernon this year but I know in the past years we have loved chasing those Big boys up there after they have dropped some Elavation.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-20-05 AT 07:49AM (MST)[p]What are you talking about.........there are no monsters on the Wasatch.....They all migrated over to Kennecott.

Since you're done for the year. How about finding me a, oh lets say, just a nice average 190"er. I'm not too picky. :) I am getting excited though. Hope we get some nasty weather.

Well I just got off the phone with a buddy and he said they got on a pretty good buck tonight, so they are coming out of the wood-work. He has been up three times in the last week or so and has seen quite a few bucks and a few decent ones. I am sure as soon as we get the first good snow storm they will be a little easier to find.... I still have an archery elk tag but I have never been a fan of hunting elk on the front.

Gonna take a lot more snow then that to bring those big SOB's down. I'll be up there for it.

Snow on the Wasatch is like a carnival moving to town. It really brings out the dirt bags, people running through back yards to shoot at what ever. Also if your are going to hunt this area check the boundaries. Use the proper access points for parking and practice proper hunting ethics. The Wasatch is being watched very close this year by the DWR.
Please if you see any of these unethical hunting practices contact Sgt Scott White the local DWR officer assigned for this are. His cell is 801-243-3061 he will be glad to assist you.

I cannot agree more! What do you mean exactly by the front is being watched this year very closely? Every year they should be watching it closely. I did not attend the meeting on the 20th, but im assuming you were there. Could please tell us what was talked about in regards to the wasatch front?

Thanks,
Dustin

Yes I was there. The unit will more than likely change in one way or another.

The DWR says that the Wasatch Front was designed for managing the deer away from houses and streets where they are doing damage to property and vehicles. The problem is most people are not harvesting does or young bucks, including me. This also is a catch 22. If people hunt too close to houses it makes land owners mad, if deer eat flowers and trees it makes land owners mad. We need to police our own on this unit, so it dosent change for the worse.

As for what UBA is proposing, this dosen't mean it will get passed. I don't speak for UBA, they will write up a formal letter of what was said. I am just trying to sum up meeting.

1. You will get a permit for a buck/doe, you will have until Oct 31, to fill your tag. If you want to particape in the hunt after Oct 31, you will need to harvest a doe before Oct 31, and turn it in to the DWR for another $$ buck tag. They hope this will cut down on pressure later in the season and harvest more deer.

2. A bow hunter education class was also brougt up.

3. The boundary is probably going to change from East of I-15 to above houses.

4. I brought up higher penatalities for law breakers. I feel 90% of hunteres are ethical and it's the other 10% screwing things up. This is a legislative issue and not a DWR issue. Maybe UBA or other hunting organizations can work on geting something passed.

I hope the DWR dosen't change this unit very much but hey this is Utah.

yep...changes are coming.hopefully not to drastic though.i really do love chasing the big boys in the rut.but a few bad applles have been giving us a black eye.hunting close to houses, shooting from roads, etc.keep ur fingers crossed.......
