No way did that score 147!! Can't believe how many people on here think they can score moose and are so off. Can I borrow your tape measure?

:) BTW...that's a damn fine Moose! Had to be a thrill taken' that thing with your bow? Story?

Official P&Y Score is 147 7/8 and is in the P&Y Club records book. He grossed 156 3/8, but as you can see, he has some damage on the left antler. Based on the approximate 4 inches of palm length lost (cut off) and 3 or 4 antler points that are missing, he could have scored in the 160's.

Story: I had been scouting a few times in a canyon that someone told me moose have rutted in every year. It wasn't until a week before the hunt that I seen anything bigger than a yearling bull. But, a week before the hunt, I found this guy keeping another bull away from his cow. It was fun watching the smaller bull (not by much) try and move in on the cow and then see this guy take off after him and chase him off. Never seen them get into any pushing or anything like that, just lots of grunting.

I couldn't get back until the opening day. My good friend Gene and I made it to the trail head at sunrise. We saddled up and packed the mules and headed in to where we planned to camp. It was just less than two miles to camp and when we got there we tied up the pack mules and I grabbed my bow and we headed to the canyon just to take a look. As we headed down the ridge we pushed a yearling bull out ahead of us and then we picked a spot to set up the spotting scope. Immediately, we picked up on a cow laying along the edge of some pines. It was only a few minutes later when the my bull walked up to the cow and she got up and left her bed. The bull then laid down in her bed.

I already knew that I would take this bull if given a chance. So, we planned my stalk on how I could get up on him. We rode down the canyon and then up the other side to about 200 yards from where the bull had laid down. The wind was perfectly in my face as I worked my way through the aspen and pines. I could smell the bull before I even seen him. When I was about 30 yards from him, he stood up. I had to take a couple steps forward to get a clear lane, I drew back and watched as the arrow went into his shoulder. The bull turned and went up hill about 20 yards and stopped. I moved up about 10 yards to get another clear shot and put another arrow into his chest. The angle of my shots were both up hill and quite steep. My second arrow was a little high but, because of the angle, my broadhead stuck into his back bone and he dropped and rolled down the hill about 15 yards.

My hunt was over by 10:30 am on the first day of my hunt and we never unpacked a thing for camp. That goes to show you how benifitial pre-season scouting can be.
