for as long as i've been antler hunting i have never found a shed on a game trail. i was wondering if it is just me or if the deer or elk don't like to shed were they walk.

what do you think??

I just picked up a shed on a game trail last thursday. I have picked up 6 fresh elk sheds this last week, and it was the only one. The others were matched sets laying in a bed, and one set was on a sagebush.
I think they come off when they come off, and the animal is wherever he happens to be. I know they rub a lot and they for sure fall off there too. I have good luck on fence lines, and feeding areas. Much more so than game trails.

I have taken some from trails - LOL one buck antler I found by tripping on it! (I use my peripeheral vision alot)

I found two sets off the same Elk, one on a trail laying together, the next years set seemed to be dropped where he bedded. It appeared he rubbed the second one off the latter year, they were 5 yards away, the first set 1 yard away. All Elk antlers avg from that pig were about 14 pounds each.

I hardly ever find them on trails. I figure the reason is they come off when they are ready. So if you calculate the time they spend feeding and the time in there beds 95 % of the day there not on trails. I spend most of my time looking where they are feeding.
