Spent the weekend with a good friend of mine taking shed and sheep photos. Here are a few from our outing. It was a bit of a rainy couple of days but I've always found the worst day in the mountains beats the best day at work.

Here's a real good 8 pt shed we found when we took a little hike on a friends ranch before we went looking for sheep. Couldn't find the match but I've got some riding to do there this weekend so hope I can find it then.

Finally located some sheep up fairly high in the rocks with two or three nice rams. Made our way up the side of the mountain and got a ton of shots. Still learning how to use this new camera and lens but thought I'd share just a few with you. Hope you enjoy.

Dribble dribble. yeah, looks like you have lots of room for improvement with learning your new camera.....hah, that's a good one.

I like drizzly cool mornings for photography, it really makes for nicely saturated photos. Pictures are all very, very nice and I especially like the up close sheep shots. Good luck finding that match. Looks like you aced the learning curve on the new camera.

Great Pics as usual!! You've got the art of taking the "perfect" as they lay pictures. I love looking at the sheds themselves, but I really like being able to see exactly what type of country they fell in!! Thanks for the post... Any more Griz encounters???

H&H-
Those are some nice pictures. I read in a previous post about your camera setup and I was (again) wondering what focal length you had your lens set at for those sheep pics? Even if you were to guess...was it like 200ish, 300, maybe even 400mm? My wife bought me a Canon with a 300mm lens and I'm trying to figure out if the zoom is going to approach my old (her new) FZ20. Either way the pics look good...keep 'em coming.

H&H,
What a great way to start the day!!! Awesome photos!!
It sure didn't take long for you to get the hang of that new
camera.
Thanks!!

Awesome pictures H&H!!! Are you sure that big shed isn't from a Red Stag? That thing is impressive.
Great Ram shots too........I wish I could see him in my crosshairs, but your photos will hold me over for a while.
Thanks for posting!

I apologize for not responding to some of my posts. There are usually a number of questions and I just don't seem to find the time to answer many of them. I'm sure not trying to ignore anyone. Hope everyone understands.

That said here is the low down on my camera. It's the Nikon D70S. I shot with a 18-70mm lens and the 4.5 5.6 80-400 Nikkor VR. Not great for action photos because it's not fast enough but pretty nice for most wildlife stuff. The tight shots in this post were shot at full zoom (400mm). So far I love the camera and lens. I use the full range of the zoom depending on what I'm trying to capture however I'm a real fan of ether real wide or extreme tight shots. I love showing my subject in its element and then taking creative tight shots.

Hope this helps.

Rod,
If you get time to answer another post, I was just wondering how far those sheep were from you when you took those pictures - they're unbelieveable! I agree with some of the other posts, looks like you got tat new camera figured out pretty good. As always great pictures of the sheds too.

h&h....very nice...that is a really good lookin' 8 point, hope someone was able to keep it, and hope the matching side is found as well. great shots on the sheep. keep at it, as we know you will..thank you for taking the time to spend with the rest of us.

Good grief those are some nice sheds and sheep shots. That shed in the water looks like a really nice antler! Cool shot for sure. You should've set up the tripod and the camera on self timer and went and sat next to one of those rams. They look tame enough. Kind of a catch and release photo you know.

Killer pics as usual! Thanks for sharing,

Fantastic photos Rod! That close up of the sheep with the broken tip is a beaut. Looks like you've figured that camera out quite nicely. Thanks for the photos.
