Picked up my first fresh shed yesterday. A average forked horn. So far since Xmas we have picked up 101 sheds and 5 winter kill racks with 3 of those being fresh. Jan. is the best time to pick up last years sheds. Shed hunting is almost as fun as the real deal of monster buck hunting. Lance
a bit to early for us. i went out yesterday and did some looking. i saw over 40 bucks! 2 had dropped and 1 had 1 horn the rest were packing. but i'm looking forward to the next couple of weeks.
Between three of us we have picked up about 100-120 horns so far. 9 fresh and the rest white. One nice 75inch brown 4 point. I will get some more pics out.
100 antlers already? Wow! You guys sure missed a lot of bone last year! Either that or you guys hunt in areas that don't get hit much. Around here 95% of the bucks are still packin both sides. And there is so many shed hunter these days a person hardly finds last years models anymore.
Im up to 26 so far and found my biggest of the year so far a 94" 6 point muley shed that weighed 3 pounds, a couple years old. Gotta find the other side now, but we still have too much snow and they wont start droppin for another 2-3 weeks.100 sheds thats crazy!!
LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-05 AT 09:18AM (MST)[p] sore feet and i picked up 33 old one day,i found 16 the next time with one brown, i found 8 in the same area yesterday.
is it possable for all the bucks to drop in one week? last weekend i saw 15 bucks, this weekend i saw 100 deer none packing.
Hundred this early, wow! I've logged alot of miles in two hard days and am at only 10. By the waythe deeer are scattered I will be surprised if I break 50 this year let alone a hundred. I'm two fifths the way towards my grand slam though of matched sets. One set of brown whities and one of brown mulies done. I guess that leaves balcktails, elk and moose.
I'm still at 1 elk shed!! Only been out about 4 hours since then though! busy busy.
I cant believe you guys are finding areas with that many whites! Wow, to think that there has been a honey hole that NO ONE is hitting! Gotta love that thought, keeps my dreams alive!
I have two spots I"m going to work hard to get into this year that may be jackpots.....we shall see!
I have found 17 white elk sheds, with only 4 muleys, all white, mulies don't drop here until late feb, and elk late march, but i hope to break 70 elk this year last year came close with 63.

You are always welcome Addict! I have been considering inviting myself along to your spot, let me know next time you go!
WyoTroHun.....wow. That is sooooo cool that you can find that many whites....pretty much means you should find a good bunch of browns in another 2 months!
Do you sell yours or just stack them up like some of us! (I just stack them cause i dont find that many, probably would sell a few if I had that many!)
As of noon Sat, 196 sheds with only 11 fresh and 6 winter kill racks. Four fresh and two from previous years. I can't believe how healthy the deer herd is. Most are still packing.
Im up to 40 now and picked up the first fresh one of the year. He dropped it in the middle of the road while I went to check another spot,I was only gone like 20 minutes, its a 90 inch 6 point, not too bad for the first freshy of the year.
Me and my brother HaremMaster just stack them up. We have a whole room just devoted to sheds, with the whole house covered in them. Too bad my brother is leaving for college this next year. Thats good though, because he will find some shed holes in Montana, just more horns to be found.

I'm about ready to throw in the towel? Still stuck at 7 whitetail...have been for about 2 weeks. No snow and really scattered. Can't find em low, high, north slope or south slope. Thinkin about hanging it up until the elk drop?
As of Sunday about 99% of the bucks that I seen were still packin both sides...I have managed to pick up one fresh so far...nice little 4 point. The years total is around 30...biggest being a 70" or so 4 point with a couple broken off extras that is old. hey muleycrazy you should post up some pics of those two hawgs you found!

Yep the little blood sucking bastiges are out. I was out 2 weeks ago and had about 100+ one me. I must of rubbed up against a nest of them. They were very small though. about the size of a pin head. They were red and when you stopped to look at them you could see them moving all around. I hate them #$#%#ing things.
Finally, a few are starting to cast their headgear. Picked up a great brown matching 4x4 that may gross B&C with an 19" inside spread. Up to 220 with only 15 brownies this year. Last year at this time the total was 228 with 58 browns. Gawd, this sport is addicting.
Theridge....are hunting a different spot than last year? How can there be that many frigging whites laying around......
Today, 8 hours, one disintegrated 39 year old shed. Deer sign ALL OVER. Problem... there is virtually no snow on any south face up to about 7000 feet, which is fairly high for our country. By the time the elk start dropping here they might be on summer range.
Hornseeker, YES I'am hunting the same wintering grounds that I've shed hunted the last 25 years. The problem is that were talking blacktail sheds. Not real big compared to mule deer or elk. The second and biggest obstacle is the fact that the grass is taller than hell by the time the bucks lose their antlers. In Dec. and Jan is the best time to find last years sheds because the grass is usually not as green and not as tall. Also, the area has alot of brush fields that make it somewhat difficult. It's raining again in N. CA.
Lets hear some more totals. 311 total with only 72 fresh. Saw a couple of bucks still packing the day before yesterday. Going out tomorrow for maybe the last time. The grass and blooms are making it difficult to find some tine.
NVMDF, around 50 old ones? Buddy you're full of crap! I know for a fact you've picked up waaay more than 50 old ones. I think 100 old ones might be a little closer!
Up to 342 or 343 with 92 browns. Picked up an unusual 8 point(the G2 and G3 beam and points split off right above the eyeguard on the main beam), that is just awesome. Once this rain stops we will go back into the hell hole and just maybe find the other side to this freak.
8 fresh/brown elk, 2 or 3 fresh/brown deer antlers....and about a dozen older (white) elk antlers so far. Too bad there aren't much deer around these parts. I usually stumble across an occassional deer shed while i'm out looking for the elk bones.
Picked up another 25 yeterday. Thats 381 with 108 brownies. Still can't find the other side of the 8 point non typical. I've narrowed it down (haha) to a square mile area. Sure, Right. My not so new Mendl Perfect Hunter boots are about wore out. Too many miles and too many hours of pounding the hillsides. It doesn't get any better than this.
