LAST EDITED ON Nov-20-06 AT 07:47PM (MST)[p]I guess the Utah DWR and some of the folks in the RAC meetings are trying to limit shed hunting. They want to shut down shed hunting from February 1st to the end of April!

I understand their concerns for the wildlife during the spring months, what I don't understand is "How the heck are they going to enforce it"?

Will they shut down Federal Lands for a 3 month period? If I was walkng in the woods and found a shed in March, what am I supposed to do? GPS it and come back in June?

Not going to happen! What about the quad guy's that just want terrorize the country side when the weather breaks in March?

Whole thing is a bad idea! DWR and sportsman have a lot more important things to worry about.

Ever year in Wyoming the ATV's beat us in by a month. I'm talking closed areas (May 1st). So laws in Utah and Wyoming would screw the crap out of us that would obey, and those breaking the law would make off. That would be in a big way, they would have all the horseman and hikers sheds. It's a no win situation. I agree something needs to be done, from my house in Hyrum Utah I can watch guys sneaking around on the closed areas picking up Elk sheds. The DWR busted a few of them. So the areas that are closed still can't keep the idiots out from chasing them around for some bone. I have no idea how they will stop deer/elk from getting pushed around in early spring. Heck....some guys chase them all winter waiting for the antlers to pop off. I'm sure they will pass something that will screw the honest law-abiding citizens like you and I. It will be interesting want happens in the next few years. Maybe give a reward for turning in those that break the new laws. A little cash for stopping somebody from killing off a deer in two feet of snow is worth it. We could make a bit of cash and the deer/elk would come out a little better. After some fatty tickets I'm sure some guys would back off a bit....that is if a law is passed. There's my 2 cents..............

The hefty tickets may help keep some of the idots out of closed areas, but most would still go get em. Look what happens in Yellowstone and thats a federal offence. In Wyoming even killing a game animal out of season is just a misdemeanor! Most of us agree there is a problem with the animals getting over run by overzealous punks. There is no way to inforce any new law so there is a problem for sure! I damn sure will report any violations I see and have in the past, but we all better keep informed or we will find ourselves with more restrictions! In Wyoming the public oposition to a shed hunting season is the only reason we don't have one already!!!
