SHED HUNTING PARTY

LAST EDITED ON Feb-08-07 AT 09:46AM (MST)[p]We're attempting to organize some SHED HUNTING parties this spring. So far, this is just conceptual, but my idea is this:

As a group, we will meet somewhere, introduce ourselves, chat for a while, then get organized and registered, then head out to find the sheds. There will be a small $5 entry fee which will all be given back as prize money split three ways for the largest single, largest set, and most found (other catagories can be arranged upon request). We'll all meet back in the same place at noon to check in our finds and award the prize money. We will need to have volunteer measurers. Be sure to bring your own lunch and come prepared. ATV'S, Chute planes, ultralights, and helicopters are allowed, but operators assume full responsibility and full liability for their use and they must be operated completely within the law. Law enforcement is welcome and encouraged to advise on legalities as well as attend. Rino GPS/radios are strongly recommended so we can keep track of each other.

Doesn't that sound FUN???

You can PM me if you know of a good location, or you would like to make any suggestions or changes.

Reply to this post if your interested in participating. If you're not interested or have negative comments, please don't reply. We're trying to keep this positive.

Sounds like fun to me! I will be comming just let me know when and where and of course I will bring my BIG FAT ATV just in case...

We're in southern Utah, but this sort of thing could be done almost anywhere. Be sure to check the laws and local restrictions if you try to organize one of these yourself. We're not really looking to generate a huge group of people either, just small groups of locals.

I even thought of a Private property shed hunting party where the antlers get gathered up and entered for prize money, but they remain the property of the land owner. It gives the land owner some incentive to allow a bunch of us shedheads onto their property for some fun. I'm sure there would be lots of rules.

If you want to have a party invite some friends, but I feel a little bit of ownership in "my area" I am not so sure I want to publicly invite a party to tear it up. I think your idea sounds like a alot of fun but "your area" wont be "your area" for long.

Sounds like a great idea, but what keeps people from bringing their biggest set or single from home and saying that they found it that day so they can collect the money.

Maybe you could recommend someone else's area as a payback for some breach of ethics - or something.

This sort of thing should work well in an area like the Arizona strip where alot of eyes might turn up a great shed.

Plus, it's fun to get together and swap stories, show off the biggest in your collection, or just hang out with other people of like mind.

Sounds cool. Even if you didnt get to keep them, just finding them is a rush.

There most likely won't be very much money involved - like a modest bet between friends. Besides, that would be cheating and cheating wouldn't be ethical. I'm sure all of us shed hunters are honest, right? If you did that, someone who knows you might suggest one of your secret areas for the next one.

We don't want this to be about the money, or even the antlers. We want this to be about the comraderie and friendship. I might be a better way to be competetive without causing people to resort to unethical behavior. Law Enforcement will most likely be involved so we will all be minding our manners.

Sounds like a cool idea, but I why in the world would you want to allow ATV's, chute planes, ultralights, and helicopters on a shed hunt? I'm not making a negative comment, it's just a question. Why not make people tighten their shoe laces and burn some rubber off of their boots or ride a horse instead?

As long as it helps to find sheds, why wouldn't I "allow" it? Seriously now, how many shed hunters actually use these things anyway? Not very many. If you want to bring one of these contraptions or a horse, be sure you're up to date on the laws and regulations and be sure to operate ethically. I'm not sure I like horses, but I guess you can bring one as long as it has a bag on its rear.

So does that mean your going to wear a bag on your head?

I'm grinning from ear to ear reading this stuff. I'm glad all of you guys have a sense of humor. I won't be wearing a bag on my head, but I usually wear a hat. Do you think that will keep all of the BS in one place? Ha. Not likely. My mouth is still free to operate.

We have local shed parties around here the first of the year every year. Watching videos eating chilli showing off the years finds swaping lies and pictures it's good fun. Trying to contain a mob of sheditis stricken bone heads on an actual shed hunt- No thanks.
