Shed Huntin Blues

As some of you may know, I am co-producer of the "Horned Up" video for sale here at MM. It features Western Wyoming deer. As the deer numbers have declined, this year I had decided to drop out of the shed hunting game, at least for this time of year, to put a fraction less stress on the resource. For a fact deer numbers as a whole are off and bucks down a bunch. A winter devoid of snow and good temps "should" allow for good carry over of what we have left. Yesterday, with 40 degree weather my fever got up and and after work decided to drive by an area where a nice 5x5 had been hanging. I saw tailights across a bottom right at dusk and glassed over to see a lifted white Dodge with a white tool box, passenger 50 yards ahead walking and pushing a herd of deer. Come on guys.... a horn will fall when it is ready!
Too far and late to see plates, but past expierence has shown poor ethics know no bounds, be it Wyo counties or Utah, Mt or Idaho. Some guys act like picking up a big shed means as much as taking a big buck. Ain't so. Buy a replica if you want a " monster" that bad. Lets protect what we have left.... MB

Well done and well said, MtnBuck! Thank you. It sometimes takes the bigger person to make the first sacrifice for the better of all, and you have made that move.

Greed, envy, jealousy, and insecurities lead a LOT of shed-hunters to try so hard to get a little recognition (in this case for the first and/or biggest antler) from fellow shed-hunters. And we wonder why shed-hunters are beginning to get such a bad wrap in the Rocky Mountain states. Might as well paint a target on our backs. Hmmm...

A camcorder should become a mandatory piece of equipment for today's shed-hunters, so we can video the proof we need to bust the jugheads out there giving the majority of us who care a bad name.

Amen MtnBuck. I'm with you on this one. I decided last year that I would back off and leave em alone. I know one guy aint going to make much differance but it makes me feel better. I'll wait till the snows gone and the deer have moved up.

If you were bobcatbess, you could have put a bullet or two through the engine block with a 50 cal, then call law enforcement to help the poor stranded motorists. According to bessy, the shooting would be considered justifiable and the only ones in trouble would be the shed poachers.

Please, don't do this!!!!!! I am being sarcastic.

I agree with bringing a video camera, but be very careful to stay away from the animals. Call it in immediately and be sure to tell them you have the evidence on video. If the fish cops know they have evidence, they just might come out and investigate.
