That turned out real nice . I have been thinking about doing the uncle mikes skull mounting deal . With results like that , I guess I better hurry up and try it .

that looks good! The only part I don't like is cutting the bottom of the burr off. I can't bring myself to cut my horns up:)

Looks great, what do you think of the skull, I like them, makes it easier to put sheds on and good looking too.

You dont have to. Some of them I have cut and others I just dremel the skull out to fit the sheds, it takes some time but it can be done.

Here are a couple I have done. I think they turned out OK!

Looking at trying the Elk skull next. Just need a good set of elk sheds to make it happen.

Im in th process of putting a set of elk sheds on one of the skulls. I'll post pics when I get em done. It makes it alot easier if you have someone to help you with the elk ones. I dont and it takes a long time. Here is a mountain mikes I put a set of sheds on.

Muleycrazy,

That's a sweet base and a good looking rack.

how is the skull attached to the base?

I am anxious to see how an elk one turns out.

Will be looking for your pics.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-09-11 AT 08:44AM (MST)[p]Those are some sweet sets you mounted osok. I have a flat piece of wood it sits on and since the mtn mikes have a screw hole built in I just put a screw in the top. Ive sold a few of em on here and have a couple still for sale. Here are a couple others I made, the one with the stick coming out of it is still for sale if anyone wants it.

Thanks Foundation!

Mulecrazy - PM Sent. Post up your elk when you get it done.

Has anyone else done an elk yet? I really want to see pics of how it turned out.

I have been very impressed with how good the deer skulls look and I hope the Elk turn out just as good.

Post up pics if ya gottem.

That looks pretty good to me!

I am in the process of doing one as well. It is taking me longer than I had expected.

I am having to grind down the pedestals and bases to match so they look normal. I tried just shaving off the base so it was flat but when I tried to mount it they looked goofy.

Did you have to do much customizing with yours?

I will post pics when done as well.

No it wasnt too bad just taking the time to line everything up and hold them up by myself was the hard part. The pedicles on mine were pretty flat to start with so all I had to do was grind em down flat and they fit nice. I had to take a little off the skull too because it made the sheds sit too narrow.

Heres the front fatrooster my buddy made the plaque with some old barn wood looks pretty good I was kinda wooried about sawin the button myself.

That looks awesome!

I finally finished the elk!

I think it turned out ok but I still couldn't get it just the way I wanted it. Oh well, it was fun.

Now I need another decent set to play with }>

I was curious how the MM skulls worked out. I've been eying them for some time now, as I have a few sets I'd like to mount up.

Here are two sets that I've done so far with euro skulls I got out of Research Mannakins. They might be the same one you can get from Van Dykes? Not sure though.

Also, is Cabelas the only place you can get MM skulls? We don't have a Cabelas here yet (in Oregon, currently building one). Thanks in advance.

BTW, Both sets are 300"+ Roosevelt Elk.

osulogger,

I actually bought mine at Sportsman's Warehouse. I don't know if there is one out your way.

I do know that you can buy them direct from Mountain Mikes website if your interested and don't want to wait.

The Elk skulls are pretty pricey ($99).

I like the ones you have done. How much did those run ya?

O_S_O_K,

We had a Sportsmans Warehouse, but they changed names and are now Wholesale Sports. Not sure if they have them there or not; I'll have to check the next time we head up north.

The elk skulls I bought were $70.00 a piece. They are nice, but they don't have the lower jaw, which kind of takes away from the euro mount IMO. I think I might order one from MM and see how it works out.

Thanks again for the information.
