I had one other question.
I was talking to my buddy, who a few years agon was chased up a tree by a bear. He was bowhunting and now he wont go into the deep timber without a gun. Going to get into trouble some day for that, anyway my question is:

Do you guys have alot of bear encounters when bowhunting?

Tell your friend to get his concealed weapon permit, then he is safe. I work in law enforcement and have my CW permit as well. The F&G and Forest Service will huff and puff but there is nothing they can do about it. I always carry on the archery hunt for just that reason, (Bears)

He does have it and so Iguess he wont get introuble for carrying it on the hunt then. Thats good to know.
He he was trapped up there for about 45 minutes and had to shoot at it several times to chase it away.

Im just assuming since we are sneaking around the woods we have a better chance of running into one and startling it than usual.

My favorite deer spot is littered with bears, black and grizz. I can not carry a pistol so I bring a non-archery hunter packing a rifle. Pack a rifle across your back and one fall and you may not walk again. Bear spray on one hip and a 6-8" knife on the other could also save your life.

If we're not supposed to eat animals, why are they made of meat?

I jumped a bear last year on the archery hunt, scared the crap out of bothof us! Luckily it ran away, but I have since got my CW permit, and will be packing a handgun this year!
