Scouting for the archery hunt

I am finally going to be able to do some scouting this weekend for my general archery deer tag on the North Slope. This is my first time hunting with my bow. I want to stay on the eastern side of the unit but am not sure where to start. Should I start up high near timberline or down low toward the gorge or maybe somewhere in between. Any help would definitely be appreciated. Thanks!

This time of year the deer can be anywhere and everywhere up there. I have seen bucks on the banks of the Gorge and some big bruisers way up high. I think your best bet for big bucks would be up high though. Lots of area on the North Slope but there are deer scattered throughout. Good luck.

Thanks for the input! I did some looking around 8000' and saw quite a few smaller bucks and then went up around 11000' and only saw a couple of bucks but they were a little better. Can't wait for the hunt to start!
