I have a sis-in-law living in Scottsdale. She is a single mom with a dead beat ex. Her car is in the Mercedes shop. It needs a new ignition and new keys programmed to it. My question is...does it need to be done a the mercedes dealer? They are charging her $300+ for diagnostics. $1125 for the ignition. And another charge for programming the new keys? Is that over board?
Thanks in advance!

those programmed keys are a great way to keep you going to the dealer. unfortunately the programming can only be done at the dealership. you could have the ignition replaced elsewhere, then go to the dealer to have the keys programmed. i worked for a purcells tire and auto down there when i went to school in phoenix. they were always fair to customers. getting the parts may be a real hassle though

She's probably stuck... Joys of owning a Mercedes.....

Thanks, I figured she doesn't have many options. That car has been a money pit!
