Saw 4 herds this evening all of them had bulls one was huge not much talking tonight but it’s raining.

Finally talking some this am in the Gila. Has been completely quiet until now. First hunt is always better. Go ahead wait until the herd bull has 25 cows to pick you off. Gathering time is best, which is now. Good luck out there everyone best time of the year in the woods

Back at work for a few days. We had good bugling in the morning on the opener and the second day, bugling early morning till about 8 or so then they got real quiet. No bugles in the evenings. We had a tough time chasing the bulls without bumping spikes and cows so that was our main problem was not being able to get to the bulls fast enough in the morning before they shut up and bed down for the day. Had one at 60 on the opener and 100 on the second day but not shot opportunity. Sunday and Monday was dead, only heard a few bugles early early morning and nothing when the sun came up. Lots of ppl on roads and sitting water, saw a lot of ppl pulling out yesterday, I’ll be back Thursday night till the end of the hunt, hoping the action will be better then even though the weather isn’t looking the best. Might be sitting water with the rest of the bunch. Hope everybody is having a good time, even a bad day in the woods is better than being at work. Can’t wait to go back

Only heard two bugles over the weekend. One day glassed up 6 separate herds varying in size from 4 to about 35 elk, only one of the herds had a bull. They were in different areas of the unit. Super-hot, super-dry. No rain.
