Rus I have to agree it did take Bush and congress 8 years to put us in the hole. The real bad news is that his replacement is going to double it in less then one year.
What's after that may be even more shocking. If it keeps up, you may have to forgo standing around with your hands in your pockets and pick up a shovel and do some work.

Rus, I would not be talking about draw a "socialist" retirement if I was in your position.
I understand it you work for the state hiway department and may be drawing one of those "socialist" retirements.
The big advantage I have is that I can tell my grandkids that I contributed to society by putting a lot of criminals in prison and made their homes and streets safer for them.
You will look forward to telling your grandkids how you stood around the job site with your hands in your pocket and looked important.

OK! That's enough of that fireball!

RELH, actually I've been employed in the private sector for almost 36 years (same outfit). I'm looking forward to retirement soon.

Now back to the premise of the original post I made. Much of our work force in the USA are government workers. Federal, State, Local, Military etc. Some would argue that these jobs are somewhat socialistic. That certainly doesn't mean they are not productive or less valuable to society.

At the end of the day, hopefully we can all be proud of our contributions.

That's ok Rus. Some of the best reserve officers I ever had ride shift with me worked full time for the phone company, Ma Bell, and they did a darn good job of covering my back.
