Roy Clark

Roy Clark and his band took a tour of our base when they were in town. They were absolutely the most congenial group I have ever met. He and his band were a class act.

That was awesome thanks for the share!

Most of you will recognize most of the other artists on the stage with Roy, except maybe for 1 - the guy right behind him in the biginning, with the the burgandy shaded glasses. That is Old Sammy Allred of the Geezinslaws. While he knew ALL of those old-timers and played with them and toured with them, he was more famous for his time on radio here in Austin with Bob Cole on KVET-FM and more recently, he helped KOKE-FM get started. He lived quite a life and was good friends with Willie, Roger Miller, Waylon, Roy, Hank Sr., and Elvis - and man the stories he could tell about all of them! I loved listening to the radio with him on it on my way to work.

He passed away in May - that whole week they had various tributes to him on all the country stations here in Austin. It was a cool week to listen to the radio.

His generation of artists was unique - Willy is really the only one left still making music. Here is his obituary:
