My brother drew this hard to draw tag, wondering if anyone has hunted this area and can lead us in the right direction. The hunt starts in November. We plan to go on a scouting trip in the next 1-2 weeks. Thanks in advance for any information.

I just got back from antelope hunting about 20 miles south of there. We left with a snow forecast for 4500?feet and above. I had talked with a local that said they come out in the flats there when the snow pulls them out of the hills. I know that isn't a lot but it's all I have. Not too bad for living 1300 miles away!! Good luck to you all. There was light rain off and on a couple days this past week ( 10/1 ). BLM has a no fire warning if you all are camping!!

The hunt was great. My brother shot a very large 7 X 6 on opening day. The bull scores around 360. Saw 20-25 bulls, but this was the biggest. We only scouted one day prior to the hunt, so not sure if there were any real monsters on the unit. My brother set his mark at 350 inches so he was very happy. The unit is very unique, not typical elk habitat that I am used to hunting. Have you heard what else has been killed on the unit.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-06-08 AT 09:09PM (MST)[p]No I looked at the number of tags for it and was astounded. Something like 4 NR tags??? I had a local from Douglas tell me sometimes bulls come out in the sage from the hills over around 450 there. Congratulations to your brother! Anyone looking at the pic I had back at the area from the south probably had a hard time thinking of that as elk country. I know they come off the mountain and into the sand dunes over where I like to mule deer hunt in the central part of the state and that amazed me the first time I saw it! Most think of nothing but mountain elk hunting. OOOOOPPSS! I posted that pic over in the question about antelope hunting on 27.It is still the same area. Is the sage any taller up there where you were at? Man it is only about ankle high just south of there!!!
