I got a phone call that my dad had passed away this morning, he was 78.
I not going to sugar coat it my dad and I have had an estranged relationship to say the least for over 30 years but over the last year I went to visit him several times and tried to work out some of our problems. Problem is he was suffering from dementia so he wasn't sure who I was most of the time.

I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks again for letting me express my feelings Joe.

Sorry for the passing of your dad.
Most sorry that you and he missed out on the last 30 years!

My dad has been gone for 24 years (at age 69) and I miss him every day. I was close to my dad and we hunted often.

Again, sorry Joe. I believe that there will come a time when you two will meet again and the reunion will be splendid. You can patch things up when that time arrives. May it be many years from now, for your sake.

Best Joe,
Zeke

LAST EDITED ON Dec-23-13 AT 10:30AM (MST)[p]Joe,

Sorry to hear about your pa. Been there with my dad for too much of my adult life and most of my childhood. In the end, Parkinson's took over and he too got a bit of dementia. I got lucky, perhaps, in a way that you didn't. My dad actually apologized for things on the day he died. I had just got done feeding him his last meal (strawberry shake) through a turkey baster because he couldn't lean up anymore. The luck part of it, if you can call it that, is that I realized long before that day that my dad didn't have a lot of parenting to go by. His dad was an orphan. He too was orphaned when he was 7....so, he just didn't know how to be a dad. I had forgiven him for that long before he died in my arms in March of 1987.

We're sorry for your loss, because no matter what, he's still your dad and it hurts. Thanks for allowing us to grieve with you.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers it meant a lot to me and my family.

Your friend always Joe
