Regular/Special Application Split

It doesn't look like the price increase had any noticeable effect on the nonresident elk draw and the split of applicants between the Special/Regular price. Think the nonresident deer and antelope application numbers or split between prices will be affected? I'm guessing not.

It's hard to say but I would guess for the Deer and top point Antelope units there won't be much change.
I think for the Antelope units that only take a few points you may start to see some separation.

It did for me. I was buying a point and hunting a second choice on the special draw every year. $660 for a sub par unit goat hunt and a point is just too much. Time to cash them in and reevaluate my game plan.

Why would you pay that much when you could have drawn a number of units as a second choice in the Regular Draw for a lot less money!

The unit I was hunting was 80-90% draw as a first choice in the regular draw, but 100% for second choice special. We have a good group of guys that go to that same unit every year. I wanted to hunt with them and keep building points. It was an ok deal and within my budget before the price change. It's just harder to rationalize that strategy now.

I think most people will want to stay in as they have an investment/points. The drop will happen after they draw and points are erased and they don't come back.

I believe in the hard to draw hunts it will lower the odds on the special tags this year. people will think with the fee increase more applicants will drop to the lower priced tag. but the opposite will occur.


On the medium to lower demand tags it will probably increase the draw odds for special tags.



The whole "special " thing cracks me up. why not just call them what they are, regular and expensive.
