Region W

I put in for a region W tag this year. I was just trying to get some info on what kind of terrain to expect and just a general idea of what to expect. I have hunted the high country of colorado, but have never hunted wyoming. Any info would be great. Thanks

Hunted W the last few years. There's some forest ground near Baggs, but expect to see a lot of orange. The rest of W is pretty sparse and open but does hold deer. After talking to a biologist and hunting it last year, I don't think the area has fully recovered since the 08 winter.

They give out quite a few tags for this region so expect to see quite a few hunters out and about.

lucobb---Unless you are dead set on hunting W, you might think about going up and hunting the west side of Region Y. It is a 100% draw and the entire west side of the unit is basically National Forest up near the Montana line working on south where it's mostly BLM land. You would probably have better odds scoring on a decent buck than what I've heard about W and maybe less hunters than in W. If you decide to do that, there are instructions in the G&F website on how to modify/change your application until June 3 this year.

Thanks guys for the info. I havent looked a good map on Region W yet so i was wondering about access. I know most of it you can get to off main roads. but i was wanting to backpack in a few miles and didnt know if this would be possible.

Thanks again
