Planning on applying for this tag as a non-resident. Looks like a 100% draw. Anybody got any info on where to hunt and if I am wasting my time in this area. Looks like a lot of roads, which is a negative. Prefer to be all alone in the middle of nowhere, but that is tough anywhere anymore. Just looking for a new state and a new place to hunt. Not looking for anybody's honey hole, just want some honest info and a starting point for some decent bucks. Thanks to any help you give.

What about the National Forest Land, I guess it would be the Medicine Bow? I assume I wouldnt be alone there. Where would you recommend? Thanks for the response.

No, you wouldn't be alone. There is not much national forest and it is spotty public and private. A map and the ability to read it is a must. The area is not known for big deer, but you ought to be able to rustle up a deer or two if you do some hiking.

maps are in the mail, I will check them out and maybe somewhere else. Thanks

The public lands in J get absolutely hammered. I would not count on a quality experience on public lands. Some of the well-managed ranches take big deer, but the access is very limited. I would recommend another hunt area (or another state) with more public ground and more remote areas. Good hunting. I live here and won't hunt the public ground in region J. That should help answer your question.

Unless you bowhunt for mulies or get permission for private land, I would stay away from J. Elk season runs the same time as the general deer and trust me, the deer move off the forest land and onto private. Make sure you know the boudaries and are good with a compass and GPS because the public land is spotty and the landowners patrol their land relentlessly.
