Has anyone been down that way?? Is it rolling sage or fairly mountainous ?? I have not looked at the info from the G&F yet but I'd like to get a feel for what is available down there as far as type of land. I think I would look at 132 first if it were a short 10 or less hour drive for me. At 24 hours I am going to do all the long range research I can first off though.

where i hunt in K there is alot of private ground, alot of rolling sage with aspen pockets. some thick pine area. not a real high elevation hunt. P.M sent

Thanks. The general topography is part of what I'm trying to find out. 132 would be what I would look at first, I think. I'll slide over and get the P M and go from there.

Larry,
What version of Google Earth do you use? I uploaded the free edition but not that good, it is fair but would like it better.

If I get settled on a couple areas I would most likely download the satellite and areal photos to my DeLorme software. It is still tough at times to decide if the sage is knee high everywhere or 4to 5 feet high but you can pick out aspen patches etc. I had used the TerraServer for a long time also. It is getting so you have to pay to do a really good zoom to get detail though. I do like the feature in the DeLorme that lets me tilt the landscape to see how it looks from ground level.

Brian,

I have 4.3 Google Earth. Some areas show up better than others, and I have noticed that some areas I have checked out have updated photos.

Anyone familiar with the HMA units in K? The in-laws live in Evanston and have spotted a couple of shooters a few years back while visiting (coyote creek HMA area), but not sure what areas to initially focus on for a couple of upcoming scouting trips.
Co-worker grew up in Woodruff and is advising to focus on the bear river divide area, but didn't want to put all the eggs in one basket.

I hunted region K last year, and two years before that. Lots of people, make sure you get your HMA slips, lots of locals hunt it. Don't shoot the deer they watch all year. There is a lot of Private. 2 and 3 year old bucks mostly with an occasional 180.

Tell me about it. We took a buck last year that some local was watching from his truck for 3 months he told us. We just figured we would go hike in and see what happened. I thought he was going to shoot our tires out.

I love that country up there. Rolling hills of sage and hideyholes with quakies. Hey taxman9bone, do you have any pics of that buck from last year? We like pictures on here. Thanks.
