REFLEX or HOYT? Better? Worse?

Hey do any of you experts have some reviews on Reflex vs Hoyt bows?

I hear everything from they are "basically the same component builds" to "you get what you pay for"...Any opinions? I'm trying to sort thru the advertisement hype. I'd appreciate it. Thnx

I have had a Reflex Teton for some years. At the time it was identical in specs to an Ultratec with command cams.

All the hardware, string, cables and cams were / are exactly the same. The limbs are all glass rather than carbon / glass. Risers are cast or machined tradiitonal shapes rather than tec riser.

All in all they are the exact same build quality, just slightly different cam adjustability and feel of the risers. You get virtually every thing you'd get with a Hoyt in a Reflex except the limbs. This equates to about 5 fps in speed.

Is 5 fps and not quite as much tuning range worth $400 more to you ????

With all that said I ended up getting a 2003 Ultratec cam.5 last year and couldn't be more pleased with it.

Cheers,
Pete

Pete is right on here, as both are quality products. I'll give an analogy on the difference; You're taking a long drive somewhere and have a choice between riding in a cavalier or a limo. BOTH will get you there the same way.....but why not enjoy the smoother ride. :) JMO

This past July I bought a Reflex Timberwolf and I love the way it shoots. The shot is soft quiet and forgiving. I also bought it for the price and because my wife said I could buy a new bow since she got new furniture. I was and still am shooting my Magnatec (01 model). The Hoyt's are running $100-150 (minimum) more than the Reflex. When I asked what the differences were between the two brands the pro shop owner said the differences were in the cams, limbs and limb pockets, everything else is basically the same as the Hoyts. The Timberwolf is very similar to the Hoyt Cybertec model that came out a few years back. For example, the new Hoyt Ultramag is the old Magnatec, which the old Magnatec is the new Reflex Grizzly following me. Both brands are good shooting bows, it's just a matter of how much green you have to spend and what kind of ride you are looking for. Just my three cents worth. Good Luck

I have a Reflex Caribou and it is awsome, deffinetly not a Cavalier. Either way you will be happy I think. The cams are a little different though. Hoyt has more adjustment and options, but $$$$.

Both bows are made in the same factory. Reflex was introduced to sell through mass retail like Cabelas and Bass Pro. The same engineers design both bows. Reflex is obviously targeted at a lower price point. Fit and finish is the same as the Hoyt. Like Pete said the dirrerences are in the riser and limbs. Forged aluminum is cheaper to produce than a totaly machined riser. Some modles of Reflex like the Caribou have the same quality limbs as the Hoyt. Hoyt has to keep a difference or they would be shooting themselves in the foot. I have shot many modles in both Reflex and Hoyt and for whatever you're budget allows both are great.

I just recently bought my new Hoyt Turbo Tec Cam&1/2 bow. 70-80 lbs, 27 1/2" draw length. What an amazing, smooth shooting, FAST bow!. I test shot the brand new Reflex with the "Slam and a half" system at the same perameters as the hoyt I bought. To be honest, the price difference was about 300 bucks but the difference is completely noticable. Quieter bow, Smoother shooting, faster all around. I would recommend the Hoyt over the Reflex. And BTW, for you mathews die hard shooters out there... I shot that damn switchback.. Honestly it's a smooth shooting bow but the vibration / sound of that bow is just too much for me. IMO
