Who's ready for a little high country, Wyoming muley hunting?

Been thinking about it for a while-its been two years since I took my last high country region G buck, my buddy and I had a shot at a possible record typical in 2005 but we had to let it slowly walk away out of sight. We had been watching it and two other bucks 2 days before the hunt started. We were planning on shooting the two largest of the three. Opening morning came and we got in close to the bucks (300 yrds) by 6:50 am. I won the coin toss and shot the first visable buck (which I beleved to be the second largest) it turned out that a fourth buck joined our three at some point before opening morning. This fourth buck ended up being slightly smaller the one I thought I was shooting- but at first light and 300 yards away with a similar antler spread I had no clue. After I shot once and my deer was down the other three original bucks appeared. My friend ran forward of my position to get a better shot and saw two bucks trotting from right to left towards where my deer was down. The third (and second largest buck) was climbing the ridge going straight away-my friend did not see this one as he was concentrating on the other two. My friend was forced to make a decision on the two he was watching and from a side view the both had similar antler height and were both big four points. To make a long story short he shot the one in front which ended up being the smallest of the four. We had to sit and watch two excellent four points trot away up and over the ridge. The four bucks were all four point typical bucks with eye guards. 25-32 inches wide, the two largest had excellent deep forks front and back and great height-we watched these bucks for hours in their beds through spotting scopes befor opening day.

We were backpacked in and ended up boneing the bucks out and packing the meat out on our backs and the next day our camp.

Lots of hard work on this type of hunt but very rewarding.

We also had some great success in G in 2003.

I have changed up some gear and lightened my load for this year a little and still need to see how the new 150 grain sorocco loads shoot in my 7 ultra mag sendero. Also need to do some scouting!
